WFTU statement on the Palestinian Land Day and the Launching of an International Solidarity Campaign
The World Federation of Trade Unions honors Palestinians Land Day, commemorated since March 30th, 1976, when the Israeli police shot and killed six Palestinians who were protesting against the Israeli government’s expropriation of thousands of acres of Palestinian land, while hundreds of other Palestinian protesters were injured. We, on behalf of the 105 million workers from 133 countries represented by the WFTU, reaffirm our firm support and solidarity with the heroic struggle of the Palestinian people for independence and their right to live in freedom and dignity.
The WFTU since its foundation has stood by the side of the Palestinian people, condemning the barbaric Israeli occupation and their continues crimes against humanity and international laws. We condemn the criminal policies of the annexation and formation of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine, displacing the rightful owners of the land, forcing the Palestinian people out of their homes, and demolishing them. The WFTU denounces the hypocrisy of the international community, its double standard, and the equal distance policy that turns a blind eye to the crimes.
We demand the end of economic and military support to Israel by the USA, EU, and their allies that provide political cover to the Israeli occupation policies resulting in the deaths of thousands of Palestinians.
The international class-oriented trade unions movement struggles for the unalienable right of the Palestinian People to live in a free, independent, sovereign, and viable state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Launching of an International Solidarity Campaign
In this direction, the WFTU initiates an international solidarity campaign with the heroic people of Palestine calling for solidarity activities and events in all countries locally in collaboration with Palestinian associations and branches of the GUPW. The solidarity campaign will be launched on Palestinian Land Day on March 30th, 2023, will last for the whole of April, and will be culminated in a big event in Palestine with the presence of an international delegation headed by the WFTU leadership. Detail about the event in Palestine will be published in due time.
We call upon the WFTU affiliates and friends, all militant trade unions all over the globe to actively participate in the WFTU solidarity campaign, reiterating the undivided lasting internationalist solidarity of the globe-wide class-oriented trade union movement with our brothers and sisters in unbowed Palestine.
