UITBB Statement on Labour Day 2023
The Trades Union International of Workers of the Building, Wood and Building Materials Industries (UITBB) honours Labour Day 2023 by saluting the millions of workers in the construction sector, who are struggling on a daily basis, promising that it will always be on the forefront of those struggles.
On this Labour Day, we once again honour the pioneers who fought and died for the rights of workers and paved the way for the class-oriented struggle that continues today. It is thanks to the sacrifices of these workers that we have weekends, 8-hour workdays, and basic labour protections.
However, there is still much work to be done. The rights of workers are under attack from capitalist corporations and employers who, with the help of the political forces supporting the capital, seek to weaken labor protections and exploit working people for their own profit, valuing it above human lives. We must continue the fight for fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right to organize.
As an international, class-oriented trade union, we stand with all workers in this struggle. We believe that every worker, regardless of their race, gender, or immigration status, deserves dignity, respect, and fair treatment on the job. We reject the idea that workers should be pitted against each other, and we stand in solidarity with all those who are fighting for a better future.
On this Labour Day, UITBB remembers the sacrifices of the pioneers who came before us, and vows to continue the class-oriented struggle for the rights of all workers around the world. Together, we can build a society where every worker can thrive and live with dignity, without exploitation of humans by humans.
We call upon all its affiliates and friends around the world to honour the day by organising activities and spread the message to all friends and colleagues.
