CTB and trade union centrals want direct elections in Brazil
Brazil is experiencing a serious political deadlock. The putschist Michael Temer lost the governability conditions after the revelations of the owners of the JBS, a Brazilian agribusiness multinational, which show the involvement of the illegitimate President in corruption schemes such as: paying for the silence of former President of the Chamber of Deputies Eduardo Cunha, who is in jail in Curitiba, and for the crime of obstruction of Justice. The CTB and the other trade union centrals released a joint note calling for direct elections and the immediate withdrawal of bills and the constitutional amendment to reform the labor legislation that aim to flexibilize work and would introduce unacceptable changes in the retirement system. The goal is to remove rights and pave the way for privatization of Social Security. In alliance with trade union and social movements gathered into the Popular Brazil Front and People Without Fear, the trade union centrals promise to hold a long march of the working class in Brasilia next Wednesday, May 24th. The desire of the people and of the Brazilian working class is today translated by the following watchword: “Temer Out and Direct Elections Now!”
