UITBB’s statement on the 33rd Anniversary of the Assassination of Comrade Pedro Huilca Tecse
December 18, 2025
UITBB, the Trades Union International of Workers in the Building, Wood and Building Materials Industries, commemorates the 33rd anniversary of the assassination of the Peruvian labour leader Pedro Huilca Tecse and renews its commitment, on behalf of millions of organized workers, to continue his struggle for freedom, democracy, social justice, and a world without exploitation.

On December 18, 1992, Pedro Huilca – General Secretary of the CGTP and FTCCP, President of FLEMACON, and Vice-President of UITBB – was executed by the paramilitary group “Grupo Colina” under orders from Peru’s then President Alberto Fujimori. His fearless defence of trade union rights and workers’ mobilizations directly challenged Fujimori’s authoritarian regime and neoliberal policies favouring corporate profits.
UITBB salutes the Peruvian workers, who continue Pedro Huilca’s revolutionary path despite the dangers they are facing.

As Pedro Huilca declared at the 10th UITBB Conference (1988): “The future belongs to the struggles and victories. If the slogan of imperialism is ‘Divide to conquer,’ let the motto of the workers be ‘Unite to defeat.'”
Workers of the world, unite in solidarity!
