UITBB Statement on Labour Day 2026
UITBB, standing shoulder to shoulder with the class-oriented trade union movement, commemorates the 140th anniversary of the historic workers’ uprising in Chicago in 1886—an enduring symbol of courage, sacrifice, and collective power.
Today, as conflicts spread and militarization deepens in many parts of the world, public resources are increasingly not spent on essential needs like healthcare, education, and social protection. Once again, the priorities of the capitalist system are exposed: profit and power come before human dignity and peace.
Across every continent, workers face extreme pressures. The cost of living continues to rise, wages are lowered, living standards worsen. Stable employment is replaced by insecurity, while labour rights, collective bargaining, and democratic freedoms are undermined. In worksites, especially in construction, safety is very often ignored, with workers paying the price.
UITBB reaffirms its commitment as a class-oriented trade union in the construction sector to resist exploitation and injustice. We continue to fight for safe working conditions and fair wages. We struggle for a future where the wealth created by workers is used to meet social needs—not concentrated in the hands of a few.
Our strength lies in solidarity. Together with unions around the world, we remind everyone that the future is in the workers’ hands!
On this International Workers’ Day, we call on militant unions everywhere to intensify the struggle, strengthen unity, so that we can all together build a just and peaceful future.
Long live International Workers’ Day!
