UITBB Statement on Labour Day 2025 – Workers’ Struggles Light the Way
UITBB, in unity with the class-oriented trade union movement, the World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), proudly honours the 139th anniversary of the historic workers’ uprising in Chicago in 1886. This May Day also marks 80 years since the founding of the WFTU—eight decades of relentless struggle for workers’ rights, peace, and social justice.
As imperialist aggression intensifies across the globe—from Gaza to Lebanon and beyond—and military budgets rise at the expense of education, healthcare, and social welfare, it is clearer than ever: capitalism prioritizes profits and war over people’s lives.
Workers everywhere are under attack. Wages are hit by inflation and high prices. Public services are attacked. Precarious work expands, while labour rights, collective agreements, and democratic freedoms are destroyed. Health and Safety on the job is ignored, and exploitation grows deeper.
UITBB, as a class-oriented union in the construction industry, vows to fight in every way possible against this inhumane system. We fight for peace, for decent work, for public health and education, for housing, dignity, and a future where the wealth produced by workers serves the people—not a handful of elites.

We stand firm in international solidarity. We join our voices with WFTU’s slogans:
Their Profits or Our Lives – Hope Lies in Peoples’ Struggle
No to War Economies – Yes to Class Struggle
This May Day, we call on militant unions worldwide to raise the banners of resistance, to inspire a new wave of worker-led struggle and unity.
Long live International Workers’ Day!
