UITBB Statement for World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2026

UITBB commemorates this April 28, 2026, and salutes the global working class. This is a day for us to mobilize in memory of our fallen comrades who have been sacrificed for the profits of the few. We honor the memory of the many workers, particularly within the construction industry, who have lost their lives, suffered injuries, or fallen ill due to inadequate workplace protections.

These tragedies are a reminder that behind every statistic is a human being and a family left behind. Our position remains clear: safety is a universal right for all and we must challenge any system that prioritizes profits over the well-being of the workers.

While construction remains one of the world’s most hazardous sectors, we know that these risks are not inevitable. Safety does not improve by chance; it requires the active organization of workers, the strict enforcement of labor laws by governments, and necessary training and equipment.

As we look to the future, we underline that while technology offers new tools, it must not be used to increase the pressure on workers.

UITBB will continue to fight for a world where every worker returns home at the end of the day, ensuring that human life is always the first priority always and forever.
