Official visit of Japanese delegation to Cyprus
The Cyprus Builders’ Union PEO welcomed a delegation from Japan, consisting of members of the KOKKO-ROSSO, CTG and Zenroren, to strengthen bilateral relations with the Cyprus trade union.
The delegation had the opportunity to meet with the General Secretary of the Trade Union Michalis Papanikolaou as well as with the Executive Council of the Union, and exchanged views on the challenges facing the construction sector and workers globally. Issues such as working conditions, health and safety on construction sites as well as the future struggles of the workers were discussed.
During their stay, the Japanese trade unionists visited construction sites in Nicosia, where they had the opportunity to discuss with members of the Builders’ Union, as well as to witness the situation in the construction sector in Cyprus. They also visited the Rest Houses of the Union in Pelendri and other places in Cyprus.
Also, the delegates met with the General Secretary of PEO, Sotiroulla Charalambous and the General Secretary of the WFTU Pampis Kiritsis. Visits like this are expected to significantly benefit workers in both countries, while strengthening bilateral relations and promoting solidarity between trade unions at an international level.
