UITBB Statement on International Day against Child Labor 2026
On this International Day Against Child Labour, UITBB reaffirms its unwavering opposition to the exploitation of children, which continues to thrive under a profit-driven economic order that places corporate gains above human dignity. Far too many children around the world are denied education, forced into dangerous work and do not experience childhood, simply for the appetite and greed of an unjust system.
The brutal truth is that capitalism treats children as expendable resources — cheap labour to be exploited for maximum profit. This system deepens poverty, destroys futures, and creates a vicious cycle where the most vulnerable pay the highest price. The innocence and potential of millions of children are sacrificed daily on the altar of economic exploitation, with entire generations condemned to lives of hardship instead of hope.
We refuse to accept this reality. Today, UITBB calls on all our affiliated members across the construction industry intensify our collective resistance. Only through organised, militant action can we challenge the root causes of child labour and fight to eliminate it. All ILO Conventions regarding child labour should be followed and respected.
We must fundamentally transform the economic structures that allow such exploitation to exist. UITBB demands a new social and economic order where human rights and the needs of people — especially children — come before profit. This means universal access to free, quality education, comprehensive healthcare, and strong social protections that give every child the chance to grow, learn, and realise their full potential.
UITBB will continue to mobilise workers, push governments for strict legislation and enforcement, and expose industries that benefit from this shameful practice.
We renew our pledge to stand with all those fighting for a world where no child is condemned to work, where every child is free to dream, learn and build a better future.
