UITBB Statement on Bolivia and Evo Morales

UITBB strongly condemns the coup d’etat which is underway in heroic Bolivia, which is the result of the US and the Organization of American States intervention in the internal affairs of a sovereign country. The conservative opposition with alt-right elements in Bolivia, has turned against the democratically elected government of Evo Morales, who in the face of looting, violence and kidnapping, resigned to avoid further bloodshed.

Evo Morales, the first indigenous president of Bolivia has nationalized many sectors since 2006 to help the economy of Bolivia, to redistribute land and to face extreme poverty. This is the reason that the USA, wanting the control of the rich energy and natural sources of the country, have always tried to overthrow him.

This is only a small part of the greater attack orchestrated by the USA against all movements and governments in Latin America which express demands for social justice and national sovereignty.

UITBB expresses its international solidarity to Evo Morales, the Communist Party of Bolivia, the Movement for Socialism (MAS) and the people of Bolivia.

On behalf of the UITBB Secretariat,

Michalis Papanikolaou,

General Secretary
